03 — Driving requirements

Foreigners driving in Japan must meet specific licensing rules. Confirm yours below — it takes 30 seconds and saves disappointment on the day.

General license requirement

Eligible for participants from countries that signed the 1949 Geneva Convention.

You must present both of the following on the day of the tour:

    A valid passport

    Your original passport is required for all drivers.

  2. [02]

    A valid International Driving Permit (IDP)

    Booklet format, Class A to E. Must be issued by a government-authorized association in your home country (e.g. AAA, CAA, AA).

  3. [03]

    A physical copy of your domestic driving license

    The original document of your home-country license must accompany the IDP.

  4. [04]

    Fake license notice

    Counterfeit, altered, or fraudulent documents are not accepted. Participants presenting fake licenses will be denied participation. Please bring your passport and your original, genuine driving license.

Important: Whether presenting an IDP or a translated license, your original passport is required on the day of the tour. Only the original booklet-style IDP or official translation is accepted.

Age & safety

All drivers must be 18 years or older on the day of the tour. Every rider attends a short safety briefing and helmet fitting before departure.

Why we check

Our karts are street-legal in Japan. Police checks happen, and only riders with the correct documents can join. We verify everyone at sign-in to keep the ride safe.

We do not accept counterfeit, altered, or fraudulent driving documents. Presenting a fake license will result in denial of participation.

If you are unsure whether your documents are valid, contact us before booking.

Warning: Fake or tampered licenses are strictly prohibited and will not be accepted. Staff may refuse service and report fraudulent documents.

Bring your original passport and genuine driving documents to avoid denial on the day.

What documents do I need to drive a go-kart? +

All participants must bring a valid passport — whether you're using an IDP or a translation.

Most countries require an International Driving Permit (IDP) issued in the format of the 1949 Geneva Convention from a government-authorized association, plus your physical passport.

Drivers with licenses issued in Switzerland, Germany, France, Taiwan, Belgium or Monaco must instead obtain a Japanese translation of their license from the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF), plus your physical passport.

Licenses from countries not covered by the 1949 Geneva Convention (e.g. China, Indonesia, Mexico, Qatar, Saudi Arabia) are not permitted to drive in Japan.

What is the minimum age to rent a kart? +

You must be 18 or over to rent a kart from us.

How do I book a kart for rental? +

Booking a Kart for rental is simple. You can either book online through our official Klook or Rezio pages above, or contact our customer service team who will assist you with the booking process. Please provide us with the dates of your rental, the type of vehicle you prefer, and any other special requests.
